The recent horrific gang rape in India has put sexual assault and gender based violence on the front page and center stage. As a topic it is all too often relegated to the back page unless it involves something sensational and horrific. What happened in India certainly qualifies. NPR’s award winning talk of the nation recently aired Rape: The victims, perpetrators and law enforcement. My only negative was that it was far to little time devoted to a problem that could be called a public health scourge.
However our hats are off to our local KQED station and NPR for opening up the dialogue and increasing public awareness. You can hear this program by clicking on the link above.
