What can you do. First stay aware and stay alert when walking. Avoid talking and texting as these are inherently distracting. Second if you have been drinking have a plan and a designated driver. Alcohol is one of the most common drugs in drug facilitated sexual assault. Third if you do decide to walk home whether from your friend’s house or a bar have a plan to call upon your arrival at your destination a sort of a check in call. Be sure to walk on well lighted and highly traveled streets if possible. Consider taking a self defense class or purchase and carry bear or pepper spray which can be highly effective if sprayed in an attackers face. Most importantly be alert.
